With the Superstock 1000 championship already decided at Magny-Cours, Xavier Simeon was not willing hand the win to either of his season’s challengers, Claudio Corti (Suzuki Alstare) and Maxime Berger (Ten Kate Honda). Corti took the lead on the first lap and kept a strong pace in the 1’47s, but a surprise challenge came from Austrian René Mähr, who opened the door for Simeon to get through. Corti seemed like he had a second chance when he made his best time of 1’46.6 on lap seven and took lead for the third time, but Simeon threw all his cards on the table and blazed a (dry) lap record of 1’46.223 on the penultimate lap to take the win.
Even with a final lead of 57 points in the championship, the Ducati was not alone on the podium, but rather shared it often with championship finishers Claudio Corti (2nd – Suzuki) Maxime Berger (3rd, Honda), Javier Fores (4th, Kawasaki) and Sylvain Barrier (5th – Yamaha).
